About the Role
Germany is supporting the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) a regional economic community with Headquarters in Djibouti through GIZ implementing the Strengthening IGAD's capacity to increase resilience in the Horn of Africa (SCIDA III) program. There are four main components of the program focusing on capacity building, for IGAD (Component I), its efforts to address the effects of climate change through a regional drought resilience initiative at the Horn of Africa (Component II) to counter the effects of climate change by strengthening regional digital pandemic preparedness and One Digital Health in the Horn of Africa (Component III) and coordinating actions in the IGAD borderlands to enhance resilience, cross-border coordination and reduce the impact of local conflicts (Component IV)
The key objective of Component I is to strengthen IGADs capacities for regional disaster risk management (DRM) and the IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI), With Component II the project will contribute to IDDRSI by piloting livelihood activities,
strengthening transhumance and rangeland management for agro-pastoralist communities in borderlands. Component III strengthens One Health Data utilization in the IGAD Region and establishes a regional pandemic data analysis platform. Component IV focuses on supporting the coordination for the Peaceful & Resilient Borderlands Program and ensuring reinforced
coordination in IGAD borderlands to enhance information sharing to mitigate conflicts, strengthening resilience and promote social- economic development
